Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, and other manufacturers currently dominate the small truck segment in the North American market. Mahindra & Mahindra, an Indian automaker, has a pickup truck too -- a diesel-powered compact that promises to shake up the market.

According to Japanese newspaper Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Nissan is working on developing a diesel-powered Nissan Titan truck for the United States by 2009. Nissan will be working with US truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp to develop the diesel engines for the full-size pickup truck.

Nissan is working on plans to introduce diesel-powered pickups and SUVs into the US market, according to CEO Carlos Ghosn.
